2017 SEASON REVIEW: Darwin Ceren

Darwin Ceren - Pass - 2017

With the 2017 season officially in the books, the San Jose Earthquakes have plenty to be proud of on and off the field. A trip to the postseason for the first time in five years and a spot in the U.S. Open Cup semis for the first time since 2004 highlight the calendar year.

Let’s takes a look at how individuals on the team fared this year and how they impacted the club.

Darwin Ceren

Salvadoran midfielder Darwin Ceren established himself as an important member of the San Jose Earthquakes in 2017. With an often rotating midfield, the Quakes may not have been stronger than when Anibal Godoy and Ceren were patrolling the center of the field together.

The 27-year-old finished with 21 appearances, 19 starts, 1,642 minutes and two assists – the second of which came in the ever-important 1-1 road draw against Vancouver in the season’s penultimate game.

Ceren played all 90 minutes in 16 games this season, with the Quakes posting a sparkling 9-4-3 record in those matches. Unfortunately, Ceren also received two red cards and San Jose dropped both of those matches (at POR 6/2 and at TOR 9/9), although managed to earn a draw and a win in the two subsequent games he faced suspensions.
