SAN JOSE, Calif. –San Jose Earthquakes defenders Kip Colvey and Shaun Francis, midfielders Cordell Cato and Anibal Godoy and forward Marco Ureña have been called up to their respective national teams.
Colvey, 23, will join the New Zealand National Team for the 2017 Confederations Cup, taking place in Russia from June 17 through July 2. The All-Whites will face the host nation on Saturday, June 17 at Saint Petersburg Stadium at 8 a.m. PT in the first game of the tournament. They will then take on Mexico on Wednesday, June 21 at 11 a.m. PT and will play their final group stage game on Saturday, June 24 against Portugal at 8 a.m. PT.
Colvey was most recently was called up at the international level to participate in a pair of World Cup Qualifiers against New Caledonia, where New Zealand won 2-0 and tied 0-0. This season, Colvey has spent an extensive amount of time with Quakes USL affiliate Reno 1868 FC, making seven starts for the Nevada side.
Francis, 30, will link up with the Jamaica National Team for an international friendly against Peru on Tuesday, June 13 at the Estadio Monumental de la UNSA in Arequipa, Peru. Jamaica and Peru have previously met twice, with the two teams playing to a 1-1 draw on Nov. 16, 2006 and Jamaica falling 2-1 on Sept. 7, 2010.
Francis most recently joined the Reggaeboyz for Caribbean Cup qualifying match against Suriname on Nov. 13, helping his national team achieve a 1-0 victory. This season, Francis has made eight starts for the Quakes.
Cato, 24, will join the Trinidad & Tobago National Team for a pair of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. T&T will face the United States on June 8 at 5 p.m. PT at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado and Costa Rica at 7 p.m. PT on June 13 at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Cato last featured with Trinidad & Tobago for FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches against Panama and Mexico in March earlier this year. He played 65 minutes in the 1-0 win against Panama, and 81 minutes in the 1-0 loss to Mexico. Cato has made 23 appearances for T&T, scoring three goals.
Godoy, 27, and the Panama National Team will compete in 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Costa Rica on June 8 at 7 p.m. PT the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica, and Honduras on June 13 at 6:35 p.m. PT at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, Panama.
Los Canaleros most recently faced Trinidad & Tobago and the United States in March’s FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches, falling 1-0 to T&T and tying the United States 1-1. Godoy played the full 90 minutes in both matches and has appeared in 70 matches for the senior Panama National Team during his career.
Ureña, 27, will face his fellow Earthquakes teammates Godoy and Cato as he joins the Costa Rica National team for 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Panama and Trinidad & Tobago. The Ticos will face Panama on June 8 at 7 p.m. PT and Trinidad & Tobago on June 13 at 7 p.m. PT. Both games will take place at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Costa Rica currently sit in second place in Round 5 qualifiers with seven points, three behind group leaders Mexico. Ureña last joined the Ticos for qualifying matches against Mexico and Honduras in March where they fell 2-0 to Mexico and tied 1-1 with Honduras. Since making his senior team debut at 19 years old in 2009, he has tallied 10 goals and three assists in 47 appearances.
