The San Jose Earthquakes closed out their 2015 season with a 2-1 loss to FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium on Sunday night. Forward Quincy Amarikwa scored the club’s lone goal in the match, finishing the season with six goals, while Chris Wondolowski and Fatai Alashe were each credited with an assist. The Earthquakes finished the year with a 13-13-8 record (47 points), more than doubling their win total from the season prior.

The San Jose Earthquakes fell to FC Dallas 2-1 at Toyota Stadium, closing out their 2015 season. The Earthquakes nearly got on the board after just 11 minutes. Midfielder Shea Salinas intercepted a pass and fed forward Chris Wondolowski into the box. Wondolowski laid the ball off for forward Quincy Amarikwa, whose one-on-one attempt was saved by goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez. Just two minutes later, Amarikwa created another chance and found the back of the net. Receiving a long ball over the top, Amarikwa muscled two defenders off the ball before calmly slotting his left-footed attempt past Gonzalez. It marked his sixth goal of the season, with all six coming away from home. FC Dallas drew level in the 38th minute. After a ball was played across the six-yard box, a scrum ensued with midfielder Mauro Diaz eventually playing it past Quakes keeper David Bingham. In the 52nd minute, the Quakes nearly retook the lead. An out-swinging corner kick by Matias Perez Garcia was met in the air by Wondolowski, whose glancing header missed just wide of the far post. San Jose fell to 10 men when Perez Garcia was shown a straight red card in the 67th minute. Thirteen minutes later, FC Dallas took advantage of the extra man and tallied a second goal when midfielder Victor Ulloa was played in by Fabian Castillo and slid the ball inside the near post.

Double Down
The Quakes finished the season with a 13-13-8 record, more than doubling their win total from a season prior (six). The seven-win improvement marks the club’s third biggest increase from one year to the next (2004-05 +9; 2011-12 +11).
Historic Inaugural Season at Avaya Stadium
The Earthquakes opened Avaya Stadium to great acclaim, selling out each of the 15 regular season matches at the new venue. San Jose dropped just three matches all year at Avaya Stadium, holding a 7-3-5 record overall.
Road Warrior
Forward Quincy Amariwa tallied the club’s lone goal on Sunday at FC Dallas, marking his sixth goal of the season. Remarkably, all six of Amarikwa’s goals this season have come away from home, and over the span of just seven road contests since joining the club in late June.
Lead Up Play
Forward Chris Wondolowski and midfielder Fatai Alashe were each credited with an assist on Amarikwa’s score. It marked the second assist of the season for both of them.

With his assist on Sunday, Wondolowski tallied a goal or an assist in eight of the last 11 matches of the season, dating back to August 19.

Midfielder Shea Salinas surpassed 10,000 career minutes with the Earthquakes on Sunday night.

Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham finished the season with 12 shutouts, tying the club record for shutouts in a single season set by Pat Onstad in 2005. Bingham closed out the regular season in third place for most shutouts in the MLS, one shutout shy of the leaders.
Chris Wondolowski Finishes in Top 10
Wondolowski finished the 2015 season with 16 goals, tied for seventh overall in goal scoring this season.

Midfielder Matias Perez Garcia finished the season with 127 corner kicks, second most in MLS and second most in a single season in club history (Richard Mulrooney – 129 in 2002).

Including 16 goals in 2015, Chris Wondolowski has tallied 102 goals since the start of the 2010 season, the most by any player over a six-year span in MLS history. Wondolowski still has the remainder of this season to add to his league record. Only three other players ever registered more than 80 goals in a six-year span – Taylor Twellman (91 from 2002-07), Roy Lassiter (88 from 1996-01) and Carlos Ruiz (81 from 2002-07).

Halftime Success
Since the beginning of the 2000 season, the Quakes are 111-4-23 when leading at the half, including a 7-1-2 mark in 2015. They were 6-0-2 in 2014, 6-0-3 in 2013 and an impressive 12-0-1 in 2012, with the only draw coming against Portland on Oct. 27 at JELD-WEN Field. In 2011, the club was 4-2-2, 7-0-2 in 2010, 4-0-3 in 2009, 6-1-0 in 2008, 7-0-3 in 2005, 7-0-1 in 2004 and 8-0-1 in 2003. Despite holding a 1-0 halftime lead on May 10, 2008, vs. Columbus, the Quakes were edged by the final score of 3-2. That game marked the team’s first loss since 1999 when holding a halftime advantage.
Making the First One Count
The Earthquakes are 112-15-33 since 2001 when scoring the first goal. The club is 11-3-3 so far in 2015, after going 5-1-4 in 2014. They were 11-1-3 when scoring first in 2013. In 2012, San Jose was 14-2-2, their two losses coming at Vancouver (2-1) on May 5 and at Montreal (3-1) on Aug. 18. The club was 7-4-5 in 2011, 12-0-2 in 2010, 6-1-5 in 2009 and 8-1-3 in 2008. Prior to 2010, San Jose also went undefeated in 2001 (13-0-2), 2003 (11-0-1) and 2005 (14-0-5) when scoring first. The Earthquakes were 12-2-0 in 2002 when finding the back of the net first, only giving up leads two times in losing 2-1 at the LA Galaxy on July 4, and falling at Kansas City by the same score on July 27. In 2004, the Quakes went 8-1-1 when scoring first, the best mark in MLS. The Quakes surrendered a 1-0 advantage and dropped a 2-1 decision at the LA Galaxy on July 4, 2004, losing for just the first time since July 27, 2002, when striking first. The Quakes are also impressive in the playoffs when scoring first, posting an 8-0-1 record all-time.
San Jose Earthquakes to Add 1,000 Season Tickets for 2016
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that the club has sold out the allottment of 12,000 season tickets through renewals and the existing waiting list and will be making an additional 1,000 season tickets available for purchase for the 2016 season due to high demand. The newly-available season tickets will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, October 20 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased by calling the Earthquakes Front Office at 408-556-7700.
Earthquakes Announce 2015 Club Award Winners
The San Jose Earthquakes announced their 2015 club award winners, which includes forward Chris Wondolowski for Most Valuable Player, defender Clarence Goodson for Defensive Player of the Year and midfielder Shea Salinas for the Andrew Bedard Spirit of the Game Award/Humanitarian of the Year. The Andrew Bedard Spirit of the Game Award was created in 2008 and has been overseen and distributed by the Soccer Silicon Valley Community Foundation for the past seven years. Beginning in 2015, through an agreement with SSVCF, Andrew’s family and the Quakes, the award will be administered by the Earthquakes Community Fund.
