On Tuesday morning, U.S. Soccer announced details for USMNT and U.S. U-23 camps that are taking place concurrently in Florida later this month. Three San Jose Earthquakes players – Cade Cowell, JT Marcinkowski and Jackson Yueill – will be joining the U-23s.
Here are five things to know:
1.The U-23 camp takes place from January 9-24, with select players then joining the USMNT for a planned match at the end of the month.
2.The camp will serve as the team’s final gathering ahead of Olympic qualifying in March.
3.Cade Cowell, 17, is the youngest player invited to the U-23 camp. In fact, he’s a full 15 months younger than the second-youngest player, Bryang Kayo. In addition to being age-eligible for the upcoming Olympics, Cowell will also be eligible in 2024.
4.Jackson Yueill, 23, actually has more prior appearances for the USMNT (8) than he has for the U-23s (2). It’s likely he remains with the senior national team at the conclusion of camp.
5.JT Marcinkowski, 23, has appeared in all eight training camps for the U-23s this cycle, including the team’s joint camp with the USMNT in 2019.
