MONTREAL, Quebec. – The San Jose Earthquakes fell 2-0 to the Montreal Impact Saturday night at Stade Saputo with Saphir Taider and Ignacio Piatti each scoring for the home team.
The Quakes will play an international friendly against Premier League power Manchester United at Levi’s Stadium next Sunday, July 22 at 2 p.m. They will return to MLS action on Wednesday, July 25 at 7:15 p.m. when they face Western Conference foes Seattle Sounders FC at Avaya Stadium.

On the match:
“We did quite well for the first 10 minutes actually, we were quite aggressive and possessed the ball in a good way. Then we conceded the goal and then the rest of the game, if I’m frank, Montreal dominated. We had some moments in the game, but overall Montreal deserved the victory.”
On Anibal Godoy’s substitution:
“He [Anibal Godoy] asked to come out because he was injured and was also on a yellow card. He asked me three or four times to be subbed out. We tried to keep him on the field for five minutes, but we were forced to change. Fatai [Alashe] came in and also was injured. It was a little bit unlucky in the last 10 minutes of the first half.”
On Fatai Alashe’s substitution:
“He was injured in his groin, so I was forced to change and of course, it was so unlucky for us.”

“I am just focused on the next game. Of course, we are discussing what we have to add, and we analyze every game really carefully. Now it is about trying to prepare for the next game for Seattle next Wednesday.”

On the difficulties with results:
“When you are not winning it is trying times, but I definitely have faith in this locker room and each player. I think the belief hasn’t wavered, which I think is our best attribute right now. At times you could waver and lose faith, but I think all the guys are all in chime in believing, and it is just execution now.”
On the player movement during the transfer window:
“That is always something that is on your mind and it is just part of our profession. When you are not performing, there could, and will, be changes. You have to keep producing if you want to play. It’s not what you have done, it’s what you can do.”
On being five goal shy from tying the all-time goals record in MLS:
“It is pretty cool. Obviously, I follow everything and I know where I am, but it is still five goals so I can’t do it in one game. It is just one of those things where we keep going out there and try to win. If we win, we usually create chances and I usually find myself on the end of them too.”
