Three-Peat?
San Jose is seeking their third consecutive victory against the LA Galaxy. The Quakes back-to-back wins at Stanford Stadium (2-1 on July 1) and StubHub Center (3-0 on Aug. 27) last season marks the first time either side of the rivalry has won two straight meetings since 2012 (3-2 on May 23 and 4-3 on June 30). The last time either side won three straight meetings took place in 2005.
Conquer StubHub
The Earthquakes defeated the LA Galaxy 3-0 at StubHub Center last August, snapping a six-game winless run at the venue (0-3-3). San Jose has never won back-to-back meetings in LA and will be looking to do so on Friday.
Goals on Goals on Goals
With his strike on Saturday, Quakes forward Danny Hoesen has now scored a goal in three consecutive games and four of the last five. The last Quakes player to accomplish the feat was Chris Wondolowski, who scored in four straight games in April of 2016. He is currently tied for sixth in MLS with six goals, just two shy of the league leaders. Only LAFC’s Carlos Vela has more goals this season for a Western Conference side (7).
First Start
Chris Wehan started and played 45 minutes against D.C. United, marking the first start of his MLS career. Wehan was the 2017 USL Rookie of the Year and Assists Champion with Reno 1868 FC.
Back on the Field
Midfielder Tommy Thompson played eight minutes as a substitute on Saturday, marking his first appearance since the team’s opening day win on March 3. He had missed extensive time with an illness.
Making Saves
Goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell has made 38 saves this season, third most in the Western Conference and tied for fifth in MLS.
