The San Jose Earthquakes will head south to face the LA Galaxy on Sunday, April 21. Kickoff from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, will take place at 5:15 p.m. PT and will be broadcast globally on Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass and nationally on FS1, as well as on local radio via AM 810 The Spread (English) and AM 1370 La Kaliente (Spanish).
The Earthquakes created several chances but could not find the back of the net in a defeat at home last weekend against the Colorado Rapids. The away side got off to an early start, with forward Miguel Navarro earning a penalty and converting from the spot in the 10th minute. While the Quakes outshot their opponents (22-13) and put more attempts on goal (6-3), Colorado capitalized on their chances and took all three points with a 3-0 victory.
San Jose looks to improve their road record Sunday in Southern California against their longtime archrivals, the LA Galaxy. This matchup marks the 100th California Clásico between the two sides and their second meeting of the 2024 season. In their first encounter on March 2, the Galaxy won 3-1 in front of a sold-out crowd at PayPal Park in the Quakes’ home opener.
Jeremy Ebobisse has demonstrated prolonged success against LA throughout his Major League Soccer career. The forward has notched nine goals in 14 games versus the Galaxy over his eight-season MLS tenure. Preston Judd will return to Carson for the first time since joining the Quakes from LA in the offseason. Judd scored in his first meeting against his former club in the home opener.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy head into the matchup following a 3-1 away victory against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The result was earned off the back of forward Dejan Joveljic, winger Joseph Paintsil, and midfielder Diego Fagúndez, who all netted in the win. Since 2021, Joveljic has performed well in the Cali Clásico, scoring five goals in seven games.
As San Jose prepares for its 100th meeting with the Galaxy in all competitions, the Quakes aim to take advantage of this milestone game and earn their first road triumph of the season.
