QUAKES NOTES: California Clasico, Danny's on fire & more

Danny Hoesen vs. LA 2017

California Clasico

San Jose holds a 4-1-1 record in six prior contests against the Galaxy at Stanford Stadium. Last season, the Quakes scored two late goals, including a 93rd-minute strike by Shea Salinas, to win 2-1. The game was attended by 50,617 fans, fifth most for any MLS regular season match in 2017.

Danny’s on Fire

On Saturday, Earthquakes forward Danny Hoesen scored his 10th goal of the season against Real Salt Lake. Hoesen now shares the third-place spot on MLS’ top goal scorers list for the 2018 season with Gyasi Zardes, trailing Josef Martinez (14) and Bradley Wright-Phillips (11). Hoesen and Wright-Phillips are the only two players in MLS with at least 10 goals and four assists this season.

Quakes Record

With his goal against Real Salt Lake, Danny Hoesen became the first Quakes player other than Chris Wondolowski to score double-digit goals for the club since 2012.

2018 FIFA World Cup

The Quakes will play Saturday’s match without Anibal Godoy and Harold Cummings who are currently participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup with the Panama National Team. The Galaxy will play without Jonathan Dos Santos and Giovanni Dos Santos who are with the Mexican National Team. The Quakes and the Galaxy are two of seven MLS teams to send multiple players to the World Cup this year.

Meeting Zlatan

Saturday’s match will mark the first time LA Galaxy forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic will play against the Quakes.

Brick Wall

In last Saturday’s match against Real Salt Lake, goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell’s heroics kept San Jose in the match. He made seven saves, including a crucial diving effort three minutes into stoppage time, to equal his career high, and earned a place on MLS Team of the Week bench.
