The offseason addition of Earthquakes defender Marvell Wynne paid major dividends for the club during the 2015 MLS campaign. A defensive catalyst for the black and blue, we review what was a career year for the MLS veteran.

Consistent Presence: Despite being a 10-year Major League Soccer veteran, Wynne set career highs in appearances (33), starts (32) and minutes (2,762) for San Jose in 2015. Wynne played more minutes this season than any other Quakes defender.

Award Shortlist: Wynne was named a finalist for the MLS Fair Play Award after committing only 22 fouls all season and being cautioned just once. In fact, Wynne was the only player in the league to log more than 2,500 minutes and receive one or fewer yellow cards.

Rivals on the Road: Wynne tallied two assists during the 2015 season, with each coming on the road against the Quakes fiercest rivals. He recorded an assist at CenturyLink Field against Seattle Sounders FC on March 14 and at the StubHub Center against the LA Galaxy on July 17.

Start on, Stay on: Of his 32 starts, Wynne only exited a match before the final whistle five times. His 27, 90-minute appearances ranked second among all Quakes field players (Wondolowski – 28).
