Earthquakes midfielder Cordell Cato enjoyed a stand out campaign in his third year with the club. Tallying three goals and two assists in 28 games played, the 23-year-old was a constant threat on the San Jose flanks. Versatitle and agile in 2015, we review his career year with the black and blue.
Career Highs: In his fourth season in Major League Soccer, Cato tallied career highs in appearances (28), starts (18) and minutes (1,814). He has set a new career high in all three statistics every year since joining MLS.
Game to Remember: Cato scored the first game-winning goal of his career, notching the first score in a 5-0 drubbing of Sporting Kansas City on Aug. 19. Cato would add a second goal later in the match, giving him the first multi-goal game of his career.
Big Stage, Big Performance: Cato scored against the rival LA Galaxy in front of a California Clasico-record 50,422 fans at Stanford Stadium, cementing the club’s 3-1 victory on June 27.
Versatility: Cato’s versatility was tested (and proven) during the 2015 MLS season. He was the only Quakes player to start at four different positions during the year – left back, right back, left midfield and right midfield.
International Stage: A regular with the Trinidad and Tobago National Team, Cato recently played in what he called “the biggest game of [his] career” – a World Cup Qualifying match against the United States. Cato played 85 minutes in the scoreless draw.
