Clarence Goodson showed the rest of Major League Soccer why he’s still among the best center backs in the nation by having arguably the best season of his seven-year MLS career.
On the Field: Goodson made 28 appearances (2nd most of his career) and 28 starts (t-most), while finishing with 2,398 minutes (2nd most).
Game-Winning Goals: Entering the season with one career game-winning goal, Goodson tallied two in 2015 alone. He was the only defender in MLS to score multiple game-winning goals this season.
International Champions Cup Tally: Goodson didn’t just score twice in MLS play, but he also tallied a goal against Club America on July 14 as part of the International Champions Cup North America. The 24th-minute header gave the home side a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
MLS Team of the Week: Goodson was a regular for MLS Team of the Week, being selected five times. He was the only defender in MLS to earn the nod on five or more occasions.
Defensive Prowess: In his 28 starts, he helped the Quakes secure 10 shutouts (35.7% of the games). Overall, San Jose allowed just 33 total goals in his 28 starts (1.18 goals against average).
Distribution is Key: Goodson tallied two assists, a career high, and just one shy of equalizing his career total entering the season.
Milestones: Goodson made his 100th MLS appearance on May 5 at Houston and his 100th MLS start on July 10 vs. Houston. He is just 13 minutes shy of 10,000 for his MLS career.
