The San Jose Earthquakes will donate proceeds from the 50/50 raffles held during matches on Saturday, Aug. 25 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Wednesday, Aug. 29 against FC Dallas to aid victims of the Carr Fire in Northern California. The funds will be sent to the Shasta Regional Community Foundation to help fund relief efforts for the fire that has burned more than 230,000 acres and displaced more than 35,000 people from their homes.
U.S. Soccer and star Women’s National Team forward Megan Rapinoe, a native of Redding, Calif., announced a partnership with the Shasta Regional Community Foundation on Aug. 22 to raise awareness and funds. The Earthquakes are now joining the cause with this initiative.
The U.S. Women’s National Team will take on Chile at the Earthquakes’ Avaya Stadium in San Jose on Tuesday, Sept. 4. The match will feature in-stadium public address announcements and LED field-board signage related to the efforts. Additionally, U.S. Soccer will host a group from the Redding area who were impacted by the fire, and honor a first responder, representing all those who battled the blaze that was the seventh largest in California history and most destructive in Shasta County history.
Women’s National Team defender and Menlo Park native Tierna Davidson will also kick the ceremonial first goal at the Earthquakes match tomorrow night. Tickets for the Western Conference matchup are available here.
Fans are encouraged to donate at ussoccer.com/CarrFund. One hundred percent of the donations (excluding online credit card processing fees) will go to the Carr Community Fund for the Carr Fire recovery efforts.
