Panamaniacs go undefeated in pair of World Cup Qualifiers


Earthquakes midfielders Anibal Godoy and Alberto Quintero helped lead the Panamanian national team to two big results in this past week’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, defeating Honduras 1-0 on Nov. 11 and battling to a scoreless draw against Mexico on Nov. 16. 


Godoy, 26, appeared in both matches for Los Canaleros, starting and playing 54 minutes against Honduras before coming on as a second half substitute against Mexico in the 82nd minute. Quintero, 28, started and played 90 minutes in both matches. 


After go undefeated in their first two fixtures, Panama sits in third place in Round Five behind first place Costa Rica and second place Mexico. Their next World Cup Qualifier will be March 24, 2017 against fellow San Jose midfielder Cordell Cato and Trinidad and Tobago.

Cato, T&T start winless in Round 5 of World Cup Qualifying

San Jose midfielder Cordell Cato and Trinidad and Tobago got off to a rough start in Round Five of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying this past week, falling 0-2 to Costa Rica on Nov. 11 and 1-3 to Honduras on Nov. 15. 


Cato, 24, appeared in both matches for the Soca Warriors, starting and playing 75 minutes against Costa Rica and playing 90 minutes in Tuesday’s match against Honduras. 


The Soca Warriors’ slow start in Round Five puts them in fifth place behind Honduras, Panama, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Cato and T&T will look to redeem themselves on March 24, 2017 when they face off against Quintero, Godoy and Panama.
