The San Jose Earthquakes Special Olympics Unified Team will travel to Houston, Texas this weekend to face the Houston Dynamo Unified Squad on Saturday.
The Quakes Special Olympics Unified Team consists of 22 players, ages 16-25, both with and without intellectual disabilities that will compete together as they take on Houston.
Partnering with Special Olympics Northern California, the Unified Game aims to provide athletes of all ability levels the chance to play and be part of a team while learning skills such as being a good teammate, winning with grace and encouraging others to carry positivity into their everyday lives.
On Friday morning, Sept. 28, the Quakes Unified will fly to Houston and will later eat dinner together with Houston Unified at Pitch 25. Owned by former Houston Dynamo and Quakes forward Brian Ching, Pitch 25 features an indoor turf field and a gaming wall.
The next morning, the two teams will face each other at the Houston Sports Park, the First Team’s training facility, followed by a post-match pizza party.
That evening, Quakes vs. Dynamo First Team match will take place at BBVA Compass Stadium, and the two Unified squads will be there cheering on their respective teams.
