Week 23 was a tough week for the Quakes. The match against the Rapids saw them play their sixth match in 23 days . Despite dominating the match in almost every way, the Quakes ultimately fell to the Rapids 2-1. Now they have their eyes set on their matchup with Sporting Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday, August 17.
Sporting Kansas City are sitting in 10th place at the moment, eight points off the playoff line. SKC has had a rather inconsistent season so far. They seem to get results almost randomly and against the better judgement of MLS pundits. For example, they’ve won only one in their last four games. What is surprising about that is that the win was against the current second place team, Seattle Sounders. Therefore, the Quakes have to be careful with this Sporting Kansas City team. While they certainly are struggling, they shouldn’t be underestimated.
Now, who should you put in your lineup?
It’s no surprise that Vako is still someone that you MUST have in your lineup. He is quite literally tearing up anyone he plays against. He gets goals, he gets assists, he creates chances, and he takes shots on goal. Everything you want in a midfielder for fantasy. Even though the Quakes lost, he still managed to tally 10 points.
Magnus Eriksson is always someone that is a viable option. Although he didn’t have the best match against Colorado, he still poses a threat in any game. His specialty is setting up his teammates and creating chances. If the Quakes can dominate the way they did against Colorado, but finish a few more of their chances, picking Eriksson would pay off.
The next suggestion is a big IF. Cristian Espinoza is still labeled as uncertain, but IF he does play, he’ll score you points. The way scoring goes in Fantasy is that players are awarded points for goals, assists, chances created, crosses, and minutes played (these are the most commonly awarded points for midfielders). Espinoza is a 90-minute player, he loves sending in crosses that can lead to an assist, and he loves taking shots from just outside the box. He’s struck the post numerous times in the past and he’s bound to score one at some point in time. But again, that’s IF he plays this weekend. Monitor his status on Fantasy and if that little bubble turns green, consider including him.
That’s all the suggestions for this week. Good luck, fantasy managers!
