– The Quakes needed a spark in their match against New York City FC and they got one, courtesy of forward Quincy Amarikwa. After a Matias Perez Garcia corner kick was popped up high in the air by NYCFC midfielder Frank Lampard, Amarikwa leapt over both Clarence Goodson and Andrew Jacobson to redirect his header past goalkeeper Josh Saunders and into the far-side netting.

Ramiro Corrales Hall of Fame Induction - The Earthquakes honored longtime Quakes captain Ramiro Corrales as the ninth member of the Earthquakes Hall of Fame. The club held a halftime ceremony to honor Corrales during the club’s bout with Philadelphia on Sept. 5. Joined by his family and former teammates, he was awarded a painting of himself being carried off of the field during his last match as a player.
Best Community Moment
Harlem Clemons: Our honorary captain - The Earthquakes welcomed a very special guest to Avaya Stadium this past month as the club’s honorary captain for San Jose’s match against Real Salt Lake on Sept. 27. Clemons, a nine-year old from Oakland, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at five years old and was recently pronounced cancer free last year. Harlem stopped by training two days before the club’s match to meet the players, coaches and participate in a shoot around afterwards. On Sunday, he signed a one-day contract for the big game against RSL and joined the starting XI during the game’s walkout ceremony.
Best Celebration
Watch him Whip - The best celebration in September goes to midfielder Fatai Alashe who scored the opening goal in a 1-1 draw with Seattle Sounders FC on Sept. 12, in what was his own bobblehead night. Alashe’s heading finish prompted quite arguably the best goal celebration of San Jose’s season: The Whip/Nae Nae dance. The rookie’s timely finish kept San Jose in the playoff hunt and taught half of the stadium a new dance move.

Quakes 1, RSL 0 - The Quakes entered the last match of September against Real Salt Lake eyeing three crucial points in hopes of keeping pace in a tight Western Conference playoff hunt. San Jose had their chances throughout the match, but it wasn't until the 87th minute when the Quakes broke through. Matias Perez Garcia's late-game finish sent Avaya Stadium into a frenzy and kept the Quakes right in the thick of the MLS Cup Playoff conversation.
