The 1983 NASL Quakes were one of the best teams in club history and leading the way for that squad was forward Steve Zungul. His two seasons in San Jose earned him two NASL All-Star nods and the 1984 NASL MVP award. He scored 36 goals and had 25 assists in those two years. The 1983 squad went unbeaten at home and made the playoffs in the Western Division. Zungul’s three goals in the first round helped the Quakes advance to the semifinals before falling to Toronto. Despite a short stint in San Jose, Zungul left a big impression on the local fans.
