Mullan arrived along with a handful of new faces prior to the 2003 MLS season and made an immediate impact at right midfield and occasionally at forward. His work rate was unmatched as he was just as likely to score a goal as to make a defensive tackle to save a goal. During his three years, the Quakes made three straight playoff appearances, won the 2003 MLS Cup and captured their first Supporters’ Shield in 2005. He will always be remembered for scoring the late equalizer in the 2003 Western Conference Final against Kansas City before Landon Donovan scored the game-winner in overtime.
