The first player ever signed with the Quakes, the Scottish midfielder would leave a lasting impact on the club. He was not only a player on the Quakes, but served as assistant general manager from 1974-76 and then became the first ever player/general manager in professional sports in 1977. He would help San Jose to three playoff appearances in his four seasons. A member of the Quakes Hall of Fame, he scored eight goals and dished out 13 assists in his career. He would later return to San Jose as general manager in 2002 and 2003, helping the team win the 2003 MLS Cup.
