A Hermann Trophy winner at San Jose State, Hernandez was one of the first signings of the 1974 Earthquakes. He had an immediate impact for the Quakes as he scored the first goal in team history just three minutes into the opening match on May 5, 1974 at the Vancouver Whitecaps. He followed that up with another, first, netting San Jose’s first goal in the first home match against the Dallas Tornado on May 11, a 4-3 Quakes win. The native of Spain has spent 50 years building the game of soccer in San Jose and was inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
