When the Quakes came back in 2008, Hernandez was the seventh pick in the MLS Expansion Draft, but he proved to be one of the best pick-ups the team made. The New Jersey native spent seven years with the team and used his speed and positioning excel at center back and outside back for the team. He even earned a call-up to the U.S. National Team January camp for his efforts. He was a key part of the team’s run to the conference final in 2010 and the Supporters’ Shield in 2012. With 165 appearances he is in the top 10 all-time in team history.
