Raised in Fremont, Doyle was the first player signed by the San Jose Clash and became the first team captain in 1996. His first season was capped by MLS Best XI and MLS Defender of the Year honors, as he led the Clash to a playoff berth. Not only a great defender, he was one of the highest scoring defenders in team history, netting 11 goals and recording 16 assists. He finished his career on a high note with a goal in his final home match, a 3-0 win over the Columbus Crew at Spartan Stadium. He retired as the club’s all-time leader in games played and games started. He was the only person to be a part of the club every season from 1996-2016, as a player, broadcaster, assistant coach and general manager.
