No player arrived with more hype in San Jose than Donovan, who made his first appearance at just 19 years old with the Quakes. Able to take the game over with his scoring, passing or incredible pace, Donovan immediately helped transform the Quakes from also-rans to champions. In his first three seasons in San Jose, he led the team to two MLS Cup victories, scoring 10 goals and notching five assists in 12 playoff matches. He formed great forward partnerships with Ronald Cerritos, Dwyane De Rosario and Brian Ching during his stint in San Jose. He became the first Quakes player to ever record a hat trick on Sept 24, 2003.
