SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will host Gamer Night at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 3 when the club takes on Columbus Crew SC at 6:45 p.m., presented by Kelly-Moore Paints. Several activations throughout the evening will be gamer focused and will emphasize the rapidly growing video-game industry. Special event tickets are available here.
The 7UP Epicenter will be transformed into a gamer’s paradise with numerous PCs and PlayStation 4s equipped with popular titles such as FIFA 19, Fortnite, Overwatch and Rocket League. For fans who prefer more traditional games, foosball, giant connect four and corn hole will also be available.
As part of the pregame fun, a viewing party will be held at 5:15 p.m. for an Overwatch League match between the San Francisco Shock and Los Angeles Gladiators.
The Earthquakes’ eMLS athlete Alan Ortega will serve as the celebrity drummer pregame. Ortega, a native of Stockton, Calif., has more than 54,000 followers on his FIFA 19 Twitch channel, which ranks top-60 in the world. Pregame will also include a ceremonial first goal by members of the San Francisco Shock and NRG Esports.
Halftime will feature a game of Mario Kart 64 on the stadium’s large videoboard. Mario Kart 64 sold nearly 10 million copies following its release in December of 1996, making it the second best-selling game on Nintendo 64.
Several gaming-themed giveaways will be distributed throughout the night, including high-end headsets, gaming chairs, gaming routers, computer memory and hard drives, and a San Francisco Shock team-signed jersey. Fans can test their luck in an enter-to-win experience and will have the opportunity to meet and play with professional esports athletes.
On Monday, July 22, the Earthquakes will announce a contest for esports fans to win a VIP experience at the match on August 3.
