SAN JOSE, Calif. –The San Jose Earthquakes will celebrate the start of the 2019 MLS regular season with MLS is Back Weekleading up to Opening Night on Saturday, March 2 against the Montreal Impact at 6:45 p.m. The week will include many fun fan-interactive activities, opportunities to win tickets, and much more.
Below is a day-by-day schedule of all the events from Saturday, Feb. 23 to Saturday, March 2:
Saturday, Feb. 23
PRESEASON – The Earthquakes will host Seattle Sounders FC at Avaya Stadium for the first and only home preseason match ahead of next weekend’s season opener. Tickets are available hereand hot dogs will be available for just $1 each.
Sunday, Feb. 24
LIGHT UP THE CITY – The Quakes will “Light Up the City” of San Jose at various key locations, including City Hall and the Rotunda, which will stay illuminated in blue for the entire week through match day.
Monday, Feb. 25
QUAKE IT UP DAY –Members of the club’s front office will take to the streets to promote Saturday’s match by bringing swag and Opening Night-related items to local businesses around San Jose.
Tuesday, Feb. 26
JUGGLING CONTEST– The Quakes’ Brand Ambassador team will visit Downtown San Jose, offering bystanders a chance to win tickets by showing off their soccer skills. The Brand Ambassadors will roam around Downtown during the day, offering tickets to anyone capable of juggling 10 times!
PLAY OUTSIDE DAY – The Earthquakes will be accepting a proclamation during the city council meeting on Tuesday, marking March 2 to be “Play Outside Day” in the City of San Jose in accordance with the season opener.
Wednesday, Feb. 27
VHP FREE PLAY DAY (3 P.M.) –The Quakes and Valley Health Plan are co-hosting a Free Play Day at Trace Elementary School. Kids ages 6-12 are invited to come out and play in no-pressure, non-coached scrimmages. Participants will be treated to an autograph session with Quakes midfielder Tommy Thompson and parents are welcome to stay and join in the conversation on youth health and wellness. FLAG-RAISING CEREMONY (5:30 P.M.) –We will be raising a Quakes flag at City Hall to celebrate the beginning of our season. Councilmember Raul Peralez will emcee, City of San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo will attend, and Quakes President Tom Fox will speak. This event is open and free to the public.
2019 SEASON LAUNCH PARTY (6:00 P.M.) – Soon after the flag-raising will be the official 2019 Season Launch Party down the street at San Pedro Square Market. The party will have different activations throughout the arranged area, including player autographs, merchandise locations, and more.
Thursday, Feb. 28
WIN TICKETS – In a surprise location within San Jose with high foot-traffic, the Quakes will have a pop-up activation. The activation will consist of a giveaway booth and an inflatable goal to test people’s skills. Fans can win tickets to Opening Night.
Friday, March 1
FLAG FRIDAYS – The Earthquakes will be providing complimentary team flags for fans to hang up on Fridays. On March 1, fans can submit a photo of their flag being displayed through social media with the hashtag #VamosSJ for a chance to win Quakes prizes. On weekdays leading up to March 1, fans can grab their flag at Avaya Stadium between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. before they're all gone!
Saturday, March 2
MATCHDAY – The Earthquakes host the Montreal Impact at Avaya Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 6:45 p.m. The Earthquakes have won each of their four opening nights since the stadium was opened in 2015. Tickets are available for purchase here.
