SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has exercised 2018 contract options on five players: goalkeepers Matt Bersano and Andrew Tarbell, and midfielders Fatai Alashe, Darwin Ceren and Anibal Godoy.
The Earthquakes will not exercise options on seven players: defenders Victor Bernardez and Kip Colvey, midfielders Cordell Cato, Lindo Mfeka, Marc Pelosi and Matheus Silva, and forward Danny Hoesen.
The following players are under contract for the 2018 season: defenders Francois Affolter, Harold Cummings, Nick Lima and Florian Jungwirth, midfielders Simon Dawkins, Jahmir Hyka, Shea Salinas, Tommy Thompson, Vako and Jackson Yueill, and forwards Quincy Amarikwa, Marco Ureña and Chris Wondolowski.
The following players are not under contract for the 2018 season: goalkeeper David Bingham and defenders Andres Imperiale and Kofi Sarkodie.
The 2017 MLS Expansion Draft will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. PT. LAFC may select up to five players from the eligible MLS player pool. Only a single player can be drafted from any one club.
Free Agency begins on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 12 p.m. PT. Out of Contract and Option Decline players that were at least 28 years old during the 2017 season and have at least eight years of MLS service are eligible for Free Agency.
The 2017 MLS Waiver Draft takes places on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 12:30 p.m. PT. Consisting of players who have been waived by clubs and do not meet minimum years of service requirement for Re-Entry Draft or Free Agency; the draft is conducted in reverse order of 2017 season finish, taking into account postseason performance, with expansion LAFC picking 23rd.
Stage One of the Re-Entry Draft will take place on Friday, Dec. 15 at 12 p.m. PT and Stage Two of the Re-Entry Draft will take place on Thursday, Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. PT. The two drafts will take place via teleconference with all 23 clubs represented. MLS will release the results following each of the calls. The Re-Entry Draft (both stages) is conducted in reverse order of 2017 season finish, taking into account postseason performance, with expansion club LAFC selecting last.
