How does it feel to be honored with a Devotion Scarf?

“It’s amazing. There are so many people that are probably just as qualified as I am, so I’m just really thrilled.”

What is your association with the club and how long have you followed the Quakes?

“I was first introduced to the Quakes in 2001 when my daughter was working as a receptionist for the team. She got free tickets and wanted to know when I wanted to go to the game. I went to the game and absolutely fell in love with it. Of course, that was the first year Landon [Donovan] was playing so we did really well that year. I knew April, we had hired my daughter, so I asked her how I could get a job with the club and she suggested I become a volunteer. My first season as a volunteer was in 2002 and I’ve been here ever since.”

What do you do on game days?

“I’ve been working the VIP gate for the club since 2008 when we were over at Buck Shaw. There are so many fabulous people. Part of what makes my job so enjoyable is the people. I couldn’t ask for nicer fans to be working with. I love the players because they’re not all full of themselves like other professional athletes might be. They’re just down to earth guys. I’ve known Chris since he was playing on the reserve team. He’s just a sweet heart of a guy.”

What was your favorite moment with the club?

“My favorite Quakes moment was when we took the Cup in Carson and I was there. That was a super highlight. All of the goals that we scored at the end of matches always stand out to me.”

Who would be your favorite player and why?

“That is so tough. Jason Hernandez adopted me as his west coast mom. For all the years he was here, he continually walked me to the car at the end of games. He was like a son for me. I got to know Troy Dayak well because him and I share the same birthday. Chris [Wondolowski] and Shea [Salinas] are really good friends of mine. There’s just been so many in the past. Khari [Stephenson] and Alan [Gordon] are still good friends of mine as well.”

Where are you from and where do you currently reside?

“I live in San Jose. I’m so glad because I live close to the field and it never takes me long to get to the field. I have four kids. My son’s boys both play soccer and my grandson plays indoor soccer. My youngest daughter also worked for the Quakes when she was in high school.”
