CARSON, Calif. - Shea Salinas returned to action for the first time since April 14, scoring his team's lone goal in a 3-1 loss against Chivas USA on Friday at The Home Depot Center (Field 4).
Salinas started and played 90 minutes, striking in the 82nd minute with the Quakes trailing 3-0. Garza fed Salinas, who crushed a shot to the left side of the goal.
Tuesday's match was Salinas' first since leaving San Jose's April 14 match at Red Bull Arena with a fractured collarbone after being tackled by New York's Rafa Marquez. The fifth-year midfielder has one goal and two assists in six games for the Earthquakes' first team in 2012.
Cesar Romero initiated Chivas USA's first scoring sequence with a pass from the left wing to Paolo Cardozo. Cardozo bent a shot from 18 yards out that found the right corner of the goal to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Chivas USA made it 2-0 in the 64th minute as Miller Bolanos converted a penalty. The third goal came in the 66th minute with Cardozo taking advantage of a deflected cross that landed at his feet before chipping his shot past Earthquakes goalkeeper Evan Newton.
