The Earthquakes will complete a three-game road stretch with a clash against Toronto FC at BMO Field on Saturday, Sept. 9. The matchup kicks off at 2 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California Plus, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.
The Quakes are coming off a bye-week as seven Quakes joined their respective national teams for 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The team most recently earned a 3-0 win against the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center on Aug. 27, where forward Chris Wondolowski broke the all-time record for goals scored away from home with his 64th road tally.

The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Toronto FC 2-1 at Avaya Stadium despite playing with nine men for most of the second half. Forward Quincy Amarikwa’s first half goal and midfielder Simon Dawkins’ late strike earned the Quakes the victory. The Earthquakes’ persistence in Toronto’s half gave the home side a 1-0 advantage in the 30th minute. Midfielder Fatai Alashe sent a low cross finding Amarikwa at the top of the six-yard box who one-touched the ball past Bono. Two former Earthquakes players helped Toronto FC equalize just before the half. After San Jose was reduced to 10 men following an Anibal Godoy red card, defender Steven Beitashour sent a cross that found fellow defender Justin Morrow who tapped the ball past goalkeeper David Bingham. Despite going down to nine men early in the second half after Alberto Quintero was shown the red card in the 53rd minute, the Earthquakes took the lead in the 70th minute. After Cato’s feed, Dawkins weaved his way through Toronto FC’s defenders and fired a beautifully placed long-distance shot in the top right corner to put the Quakes ahead 2-1.

The two teams tied 0-0 on July 19, 2008, at Toronto’s BMO Field in the debut of former Quakes star Darren Huckerby … San Jose produced a 2-0 win on Oct. 25, 2008, in the regular-season finale for both teams … Toronto FC posted a 3-1 victory at Buck Shaw Stadium on July 11, 2009 …The Quakes earned a 1-1 road draw on Oct. 10, 2009, thanks to a stoppage-time equalizer by Cornell Glen … Toronto FC defeated the Earthquakes 3-1 again at Buck Shaw Stadium on May 29, 2010, though the Quakes returned the favor at BMO Field on Sept. 25 with a 3-2 decision as Chris Wondolowski registered all three goals … Both meetings in 2011 ended in 1-1 deadlocks. RENO 1868 FC UPDATE
The Quakes’ USL affiliate Reno 1868 FC earned their fifth consecutive win Saturday night with a 3-1 victory against Orange County SC. Joining the USL side on loan, Earthquakes goalkeeper Matt Bersano started and made four saves and midfielder Lindo Mfeka started and played 68 minutes. With the result, 1868 FC move to third place in the Western Conference and are just five goals away from the USL record for most goals in a single season with 57.
QUAKES ACADEMY UPDATE
The San Jose Earthquakes Academy kicked off the season this past weekend with both the boys and the girls’ teams playing several games.
The U-14, U.15, U-17 and U-19 girls faced Crossfire Premier on Saturday. The U-14s and U-17s both earned three points with 3-2 and 2-1 results, respectively. On Sunday, the girls faced the Seattle Reign Academy. The U-14s, U-15s and U-17s each defeated their Seattle opponent, with the U-17s winning by an eight-goal margin (8-0). The U-14s and U-15s earned 4-1 and 2-1 victories.
The U-15 boys defeated the Los Angeles United Futbol Academy 2-1 on Saturday and tied Albion SC 2-2 on Sunday. The U-17 boys also enjoyed a successful weekend, defeating Albion SC 3-0 on Sunday.
