The San Jose Earthquakes fell 3-1 to Atlanta United FC on Saturday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Atlanta scored an early goal, but Quakes midfielder Cristian Espinoza leveled the match at one apiece when he forced United goalkeeper Brad Guzan to concede an own goal. The Quakes were then left to play with a man down when Espinoza was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 34th minute. The Earthquakes were ultimately defeated when United midfielders Emerson Hyndman and Gonzalo “Pity” Martinez netted goals in the 90th and 92nd minute, respectively.
