The San Jose Earthquakes completed their 2016 campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Sporting Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Park on Sunday, Oct. 23, ending the season with an 8-12-14 record. Forward Chris Wondolowski led the club in scoring for the seventh consecutive season, finishing with 12 goals. Midfielder Shea Salinas led the Quakes in assists (five) for the third time in his career and first time since 2014.


SEASON HIGHLIGHTS


Wondo Leads the Pack
Quakes captain Chris Wondolowski led the team in scoring for the seventh consecutive season, finishing the season with 12 goals.
Making History
Wondolowski scored against Houston on July 31 to become just the second player in MLS history with a goal against 21 different teams, including all 20 in the league today.
Consistent Captain
Wondolowski also became the first player in league history to score at least 10 goals in seven consecutive seasons. No other player has ever done so in six consecutive seasons. Carlos Ruiz (2002-06), Juan Pablo Angel (2007-11) and Robbie Keane (2012-16) are the only players to do so in five.
Marvell’s Milestones
Quakes defender Marvell Wynne reached several personal milestones in 2016, eclipsing 25,000 career minutes and playing in his 300th MLS match.
Bingham Among League’s Best
Goalkeeper David Bingham finished the season among the league’s best in numerous categories, ranking tied for fourth in shutouts (eight), fifth for saves percentage (72.6), sixth for saves (106) and seventh for goals against average (1.16).
Panamanian Takeover
Panamanian midfielder Alberto Quintero made a big impact in his first season with the Earthquakes, finishing the season second in the club for assists (four) and tied for third in goals (three).
Bernardez Climbs SJ’s Record Book
Defender Victor Bernardez moved to ninth in the Earthquakes all-time leaderboard in starts (136) and minutes played (11,895).
Dawkins Etches Name in Club History
Simon Dawkins added his name to the Earthquakes record book this season. His 19 career goals, including five this season, moved him into ninth place in club history, while his 192 shots has him tied for fifth and 79 corner kicks in places him in 10th.

Earthquakes Hire Nolan Partners for General Manager Search
The San Jose Earthquakes have hired Nolan Partners, the world’s largest sports executive search firm, to help identify the club’s next general manager. Technical director Chris Leitch is currently serving as the Quakes’ interim general manager. Nolan Partners will conduct the search both domestically and internationally, using a strict set of criteria to find the best candidates in line with the organization’s long-term aspirations.

ACADEMY UPDATE


The Earthquakes Academy teams took on Sacramento Republic FC and EBU Bay Oaks this past weekend, capturing several favorable results. The U-12 and U-13 teams picked up victories against Sacramento, defeating the side 2-1, 4-1 and 4-0 on Saturday. The U-18s and U-14s also put on strong performances, but ultimately fell 2-1 and 5-3, respectively. Both U-12 teams continued their winning ways on Sunday, beating EBU Bay Oaks 3-1 and 4-0.
San Jose’s Academy squads will look to continue their success against San Juan SC on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Mather Soccer Complex.
