The Earthquakes open the MLS season on Sunday, March 6 against Western Conference foe Colorado Rapids at Avaya Stadium, presented by Avaya. The match kicks off at 12:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet California, 1590 KLIV (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).
Last week, the Quakes closed out the preseason with a pair of victories. On Wednesday, they defeated San Francisco City FC 4-0 at the Earthquakes Training Facility and later earned a 1-0 win over the New York Cosmos at Avaya Stadium on Saturday night.

The San Jose Earthquakes defeated the Colorado Rapids 1-0 in front of a sold-out crowd at Avaya Stadium. Defender Clarence Goodson tallied the lone goal in the 53rd minute. San Jose midfielder Anibal Godoy made his MLS debut. The Panamanian international started and played the full 90 minutes, helping to blank their Western Conference foe. In the 22nd minute, Quakes midfielder Shea Salinas evaded several defenders on his way inside the Rapids penalty area and laid off a pass for forward Quincy Amarikwa. Amarikwa’s initial shot attempt was blocked, but his second shot forced a tough save by Colorado keeper Clint Irwin. The Earthquakes depth and versatility was tested early, as defender Jordan Stewart departed the match in just the 27th minute with a left ankle injury. Defender Shaun Francis stepped in to replace him. Francis created a scoring opportunity in the 38th minute. He played a waist-high cross in front of net and Amarikwa’s glancing header went just wide of the far post. Colorado nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute. Midfielder Dillon Powers was on the receiving end of a long ball into the box and his header caromed off the cross bar. Just one minute later, San Jose grabbed the lead on a header by Goodson. Following a free kick by Salinas, Amarikwa took possession and lofted a cross to the back post. Goodson rose to meet it and headed the ball off the post and in.

The two teams played for the first time in 1996 and the Quakes swept the four-game season series, outscoring Colorado 9-3 in the process … Ramiro Corrales’ first career start came against Colorado on May 8, 1996 … In 1997, Colorado won three of four and swept the Quakes in two games at San Jose … Colorado dominated again in 1998 and had a memorable win at Stanford where they edged the Earthquakes 4-3 in penalty kicks … The Earthquakes returned the favor and beat Colorado 4-3 in penalty kicks in the first match of 1999 and they split the season series 2-2 … 2000 saw the teams split the series again with the Earthquakes winning the first two meetings … on August 25, 2001 the Earthquakes scored three goals in four minutes for their second win of the year against the Rapids. Official Start Times to All 2016 Copa America Centenario Matches Announced
The Copa America Centenario Local Organizing Committee (LOC) announced the start times to all 2016 Copa America Centenario matches, culminating in the Final on June 26 (5:00 p.m. PT) at MetLife Stadium, which will determine the champion of this once-in-a-lifetime event, honoring 100 years of the Copa America tournament and featuring some of the world's best teams and players. The tournament will open on Friday, June 3, when the United States welcomes Colombia to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California (June 3; 6:30 p.m.). Argentina vs. Chile (June 6; 7 p.m.) and Uruguay vs. Jamaica (June 13; 7 p.m.) round out the slate of group matches at Levi's Stadium, before a quarterfinal contest between the winner of Group C and the runner-up of Group D on June 18 (7 p.m.). Earthquakes Waive Midfielder JJ Koval
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that the club has waived midfielder JJ Koval. Koval was the Earthquakes first-round selection (No. 9 overall) in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft out of Stanford University. The 23-year-old made 39 appearances for the club, including 16 starts, over the past two seasons.
Earthquakes Renew Partnerships with KLIV Radio and KZSF La Kaliente
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that they have renewed both their English language and Spanish language radio partnerships. Quakes games will air on KLIV radio in English and KZSF “La Kaliente” in Spanish for the sixth straight year. KLIV is a locally-owned station that serves the community and focuses on the news, events and people of Silicon Valley. An affiliate of CNN Radio, KLIV is Silicon Valley’s only all-news radio station. Besides local news coverage, 1590 KLIV is also known for its frequent traffic reports covering Silicon Valley roads and freeways. The San Jose Earthquakes announced that the club has acquired Panamanian international midfielder Alberto Quintero on loan from Lobos BUAP for the 2016 season, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and ITC.
Earthquakes Announce 2016 Summer Camps
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that the club will host a series of camps during the summer, which are aimed at any player that wants to further develop their game in soccer. Camps will be held for boys and girls at both the competitive and recreational level over a wide array of age ranges. The San Jose Earthquakes Summer Camp Program is divided into six categories – college, academy, pre-academy, goalkeeper, recreational and team – and are available for weeklong sessions from June to August. The camps are held in several different locations, including, but not limited to, San Jose, Los Gatos, Morgan Hill and Danville. Earthquakes to Host D.C. United at Avaya Stadium for 20th Anniversary Celebration on April 2
The San Jose Earthquakes will hold a 20th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, April 2, when D.C. United comes to Avaya Stadium, presented by Gyft. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and will be a recreation of Major League Soccer’s inaugural match held at Spartan Stadium in San Jose on April 6, 1996, almost exactly 20 years to the day. At halftime, the Quakes will honor former San Jose Clash players and staff, as well as MLS representatives that made the inaugural season possible. The Earthquakes will also recognize the team’s original President Peter Bridgwater, who passed away in 2005.
