Following a resounding 3-0 win on the road against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday, the San Jose Earthquakes will be off on a bye week this weekend. Seven Quakes will join their respective national teams to participate in 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers from Sept. 1-5.
The team will resume action when they travel to Canada to take on league-leading Toronto FC on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. PT, broadcast live on NBC Sports California Plus, KNBR 1050 and KZSF 1370.
RENO 1868 FC UPDATE
On Saturday, Reno 1868 FC defeated Swope Park Rangers 1-0 thanks to a 10th minute penalty by Antoine Hoppenot. The result marks a fourth consecutive win for Ian Russell’s men and moves the club up to third place in the Western Conference. On-loan Quakes players Matt Bersano, Lindo Mfeka and Marc Pelosi all took part in the match for Reno.
The Quakes affiliate returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 2, when they travel down to Southern California to take on Orange County SC. Kickoff at Anteater Stadium is set for 7 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on uslsoccer.com.
QUAKES ACADEMY UPDATE
The Quakes Academy U-13s and U-14s traveled to Southern California over the weekend in preparation for the 2017 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season. The two teams played a combined six games against opponents that included the youth teams of LAFC, LA Galaxy San Diego, Club Tijuana and the Pateadores. Closer to home, the Quakes U-17s and U-19s also took part in preseason action, participating in the Alianza de Fútbol Player Showcase in Morgan Hill.
