The American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) is the first and largest professional Ultimate league in the world, with 25 teams throughout Canada and the United States. The Ultimate Championships is the culmination of 182 league games, with the best teams from each division coming to Avaya to compete in a final four-styled playoff. Two semi-final games will be played on Saturday, August 8 and a final game on Sunday August 9, which will all be streamed live on ESPN3.
The weekend will make full use of the beautiful new Avaya Stadium, home to Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes, by creating an affordable, family friendly festival-like atmosphere, where kids can get disc throwing tips from the pros, test their skills in a target challenge area, and mingle with some of the best Ultimate players in the world.
Alongside the action on the field, the AUDL will be hosting the first-ever $1 Million Ultimate Spirit Challenge for Charity. Some of Silicon Valley's leaders in technology, venture capital, sports and media have been invited (challenged) to select their favorite charity and compete head-to-head in three disc-themed challenges against an industry competitor over the course of the weekend. The end goal of the Spirit Challenge is to raise $1 million for Bay Area charities. Early participants include 49ers Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, Earthquakes co-owner Lew Wolff, executives from Cisco, Salesforce, Solar City, and many more.
The sport of Ultimate has exploded in growth in recent years. With participation rates in the U.S. at over 5 million and one of the fastest growing sports worldwide, the AUDL was established in 2012 to showcase Ultimate’s best athletes.
