Reno 1868 FC defender Duke Lacroix and midfielder Lindo Mfeka received USL Team of the Week honors for Week 21, marking the fourth time this season in which a pair of 1868 players are featured on the team.
Reno earned a second-straight shutout victory (4-0) over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday, July 27 in which Mfeka scored a pair of goals and Lacroix tallied his third goal of the season. Reno’s win over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC marked the team’s fifth shutout of the season, and the team’s third shutout win by a score 4-0 in 2019. Reno have outscored Colorado Springs 6-0 in USL Championship fixtures this season.
The Super Clásico de Leyendas match between Leyendas del Guadalajara and America Leyendas returns to Greater Nevada on Saturday, September 7, Reno 1868 FC announced on Monday, July 29. The match between former stars from Club América and C.D. Guadalajara will kick off Noche Latina at 4 p.m. PT, before Reno take on Fresno FC at 6:45 p.m. Tickets for the doubleheader are on sale starting at $30 and can be purchased here
1868’s record in the USL Championship improved to 13-5-5 after Saturday evening’s 2-1 triumph over Rio Grande Valley FC at H-E-B Park. Reno took an early lead in the ninth minute when defender Thomas Janjigian tallied his first goal of the season on a corner kick taken by midfielder Seth Casiple. Rio Grande Valley FC’s response was immediate, tying the game with a goal of their own in the 10th minute. Forward Aidan Apodaca’s goal in the 20th minute, assisted by forward Corey Hertzog, secured the win and second place in the Western Conference standings for Reno.
Apodaca is now at four goals in 2019. Hertzog and Casiple both lead the team in assists with five. Earthquakes goalkeeper Matt Bersano and defender Jacob Akanyirige were both featured in the Starting XI for Reno 1868 FC in Saturday’s match versus Rio Grande Valley FC.
Reno are back at Greater Nevada Field when they host San Antonio FC on Saturday, August 10. Saturday’s match is set for 7:15pm PT and will feature a t-shirt giveaway. Tickets can be purchased here.
