SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR
On the game overall:
“Definitely tough. They made some big saves in the first half. We had some good chances in the first half, continued in the second half, and right now we’re just not scoring enough goals. So we’re playing from behind. It’s easier said than done to go out there and get the first goal, but it’s a frustrating period for us right now. We’re a little bit disappointed in ourselves, a little bit frustrated. But it’s important that after this weekend we have to get ready for Toronto, and we will.”
On whether it was a better performance than at Chicago:
“To be honest, I knew we were going to play better than we did last week. That would be an easy question to answer. Better movement, stretched the field better, was a little bit more dynamic in the attack. We were trying to get behind them, rather than playing everything in front. That was helping us. It’s just getting that goal. We’re lacking goals right now and to win games you need to score. That’s going to be the emphasis as we head to the game next weekend.”
On whether they can afford to drop points at home:
“Let’s be honest, it’s not good to drop points anywhere. Before the game I look at the standings and go, ‘If we win we’re tied fifth.’ We’re missing opportunities here. Obviously the other teams have something to say about it, but I think we’re good enough to take advantage of these opportunities presented before us and put pressure on other teams. Like I said, right now it’s just getting that goal. Because a goal gives you energy, it gives you confidence, it gives you some enjoyment from the game maybe you haven’t experienced for a while. Getting that first goal, it’s going to be good for us. I think it’s a sign that things will turn around.”
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER SHEA SALINAS
On the result:
“You never want to lose at home. It’s a frustrating loss. I thought we performed well tonight. We got behind their defense and had our chances. We didn’t finish and they’re a good team with a good counter attack. They scored and we didn’t. We can play better. We still have a lot to improve on although I feel we’ve played better the last couple of matches.”
On first half chances:
“They were sitting back more in the second half. We were getting in behind them quite a bit in the first half. It seemed like we weren’t making those dynamic runs in the second half. They sat back and got us on the counter attack.”
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER ANIBAL GODOY
On missed opportunities:
“We played well in the first half, but we couldn’t get the ball to bounce our way. If you are not able to convert those chances, you are asking for trouble and that is what happened. Dallas had one great chance and converted. We had multiple chances and couldn’t finish. It’s that simple. It hurts to lose at home, but we have to continue to work hard.”
On fighting for a tie:
“When you are down 1-0 late in the match, you have to push forward. We weren’t able to tie, but the attitude of this team feels like we are always in it. We thought we were going to equalize. We have to make a better effort of scoring first and not playing from behind.”
