On what Darwin Ceren brings to the San Jose Earthquakes:
“I like his tenacity and I think he is a good passer with the ball. After speaking with people who have been around him, they say his attitude day-to-day is fantastic. Looking at our team and seeing where we feel we need a little bit more depth, the middle of the field is something we were concentrating on. We just put out a little question to Orlando and they came back favorably and we worked out a deal. I like the player, he covers a lot of ground, he is a good tackler and he holds his space very well. On the other side of that, I think he is a very good passer of the ball and that is going to help us.”

On how Ceren will fit into the Quakes squad:
“We wanted to create some competition in there. This year, we’ve had both Fatai and Godoy suspended. The return of Marc Pelosi, if that question ever comes up, I can’t put a timeline on that. He did go through with a procedure yesterday to keep him out for another two to three weeks. We were a bit thin in that position and I think now if two of those guys, say Fatai or Anibal, are missing, we do not have to move people around. This keeps everyone in their positions, where before we were moving some players around- Simon Dawkins in particular. It strengthens that position, it creates good competition and, like I said, I think we have got three good players in there and it’s going to help us.”

On Ceren’s potential game time:
“He will start games, but it all depends on availability and situations. He has played a lot of games for Orlando, we think he is a starter in this league. There are two guys that we have there that we feel comfortable with, but we want competition in those areas and I can’t say he is going to start right away, but he is going to be playing- that is for sure.”
