Earthquakes to Host Beer Fest at September 15 Match Against Sporting Kansas City
The San Jose Earthquakes will host the second annual Beer Fest, presented by Lagunitas, featuring eight breweries, including six local to the South Bay, at Avaya Stadium on Sept. 15 as part of the game day activities for the match against Sporting Kansas City. All proceeds will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The Beer Fest will start at 5:30 p.m. at a beer garden located in the 7UP Epicenter and will last until kickoff. Quakes to Provide Fans with Wondo Pins to Countdown Forward’s Record Chase
San Jose Earthquakes will provide fans with limited-edition Chris Wondolowski countdown pins, or Wondo Pins, at their home matches for each goal that the forward scores as he closes in on Major League Soccer’s all-time goals record. Wondolowski has scored 142 goals in MLS regular season play and is four goals shy of surpassing current record holder and American soccer legend Landon Donovan’s 145. Read the full story here.
Trio of Quakes Compete in Inaugural UEFA Nations League
Three San Jose Earthquakes players have been called to their respective national teams for matches during the FIFA international window in September. Midfielder Jahmir Hyka represented Albania against Israel and Scotland, while defender Guram Kashia and midfielder Vako represented Georgia against Kazakhstan and Latvia. The UEFA Nations League is a new international competition that will commence every two years. Albania is competing in Group 1 of the third-tier League C alongside Israel and Scotland, while Georgia was drawn into Group 1 of the fourth-tier League D, which includes Kazakhstan, Latvia and Andorra. The Quakes Foundation, the San Jose Earthquakes’ charitable arm, is dedicating the entire month of September to childhood cancer awareness with several activities and initiatives. This dedication comes in conjunction with MLS WORKS’ Kick Childhood Cancer month-long campaign.
