QUAKES NOTES: Vako named MLS Player of the Week

San Jose Earthquakes - 2019 - Vako - Clasico

Impressive Run

San Jose are 6-1-4 in their last 11 matches, the best active 11-match stretch in the Western Conference. Only NYCFC have a better active streak (6-0-5) in MLS. It marked the first time the club has lost no more than once in an 11-match span since the last 11 matches of the Supporters’ Shield-winning 2012 season (6-1-4).

Striking First
The Earthquakes have only trailed in one of their last 11 matches dating back to April 20.

Storming the League
The Quakes are undefeated in six consecutive MLS matches (4-0-2) for the first time since 2013.

Summer Buzz
The Quakes finished the month of June with a 2-0-2 MLS record. San Jose went undefeated in a calendar month that had 4+ MLS regular season matches for the first time since September 2013 (3-0-1).

Man on Fire
Midfielder Vako scored twice on Wednesday and once on Saturday to give him four goals this season and 19 for his MLS career. Including U.S. Open Cup play, Vako has now scored six goals in his last four competitive matches. He was recently named MLS’ Player of the Week.

Captain Clasico
Midfielder Shea Salinas recorded his career-high fifth goal of the season and the 18th of his MLS career at Stanford on Saturday. Salinas was also credited with an assist on Tommy Thompson’s goal, marking the third time in his MLS career that he registered a goal and an assist in a single match.

Everyone Contributes
Defender Tommy Thompson netted his first goal of the season and the second of his MLS career on Saturday. It marked his first MLS goal at home. Thompson also played an important role defensively as the Quakes kept back-to-back shutouts for the second time this season. He earned MLS Team of the Week honors.

Vega Loves a Shutout
San Jose’s 3-0 win over the LA Galaxy marked the club’s first-ever shutout against the Galaxy at Stanford Stadium. Goalkeeper Daniel Vega recorded his second consecutive shutout and his fifth of the season.
