SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes defender Kip Colvey, midfielders Cordell Cato, Anibal Godoy, Jahmir Hyka and Vako, and forwards Marco Ureña and Chris Wondolowski have been called up to their respective national teams for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Colvey, 23, and the New Zealand National Team will face the Solomon Islands in Round 3 qualifiers on Sept. 1 at 12:35 a.m. PT at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand and again on Sept. 4 at 8 p.m. PT at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands. New Zealand currently sits on top of Group A in the Oceania region with a 3-0-1 record.
Colvey most recently joined the All-Whites for the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia, starting and playing 83 minutes against the host nation. Colvey has made 11 appearances with the national team since making his debut in May 2016.
Cato, 25, joins the Trinidad and Tobago National Team as they take on Honduras on Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. PT at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, and then face Panama on Sept. 5 at 7:05 p.m. PT at Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, Panama. Trinidad and Tobago is currently in last place in the fifth and final round (hexagonal) of qualifying for CONCACAF.
Cato has made 23 appearances for the Soca Warriors, scoring two goals and providing one assist. He last joined the national team for World Cup Qualifiers in March, where they earned a 1-0 win over Panama and fell 1-0 to Mexico.
Godoy, 27, will join the Panama National Team as they take on Mexico on Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. PT at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico, and Trinidad and Tobago on Sept. 5 at 7:05 p.m. PT at Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, Panama. Panama currently sits in fourth in the Hex behind Mexico, Costa Rica and the U.S. with seven points and a 1-1-4 record.
Godoy most recently joined Los Canaleros for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where they reached the Quarterfinals. He has made a total of 81 appearances with the Panama National Team and has scored one goal and provided three assists dating back to 2010.
Hyka, 29, and the Albania National Team will take on Liechtenstein on Sept. 2 at 9 a.m. PT at Elbasan Arena in Elbasan, Albania, and FYR Macedonia on Sept. 5 at 11:45 a.m. PT at Mladost Stadium in Strumica, Macedonia. Albania currently sits in third place in Group G in the European region, behind Spain and Italy, with a 3-3-0 record.
Hyka last joined the Red and Blacks for a World Cup Qualifier against Israel in June where Albania won 3-0. Since making his senior team debut at 18 years old in 2007, Hyka has scored two goals and provided five assists in 44 appearances with the Albania National Team.
Vako, 24, joins the Georgia National Team to face the Republic of Ireland at 9 a.m. PT at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi, Georgia on Sept. 2, and then Austria at 11:45 a.m. PT at Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, Austria, on Sept. 5. Georgia is currently second from last in Group D with a 0-3-3 record.
He has made several appearances for the Georgia National Team, notching five goals in 24 appearances for the senior team. Vako scored in Georgia’s last World Cup Qualifier against Moldova on June 11, helping them earn a 2-2 tie.
Ureña, 27, will link up with the Costa Rica National Team as they take on the U.S. Men’s National Team on Sept. 1 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. at 3:55 p.m. PT, and Mexico on Sept. 5 at 7:05 p.m. PT at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica. The Ticos are in second place in the Hex behind Mexico with a 3-1-2 record.
Ureña last played at the international level in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, helping Costa Rica reach the Semifinals. He has made 54 appearances for the senior squad, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists.
Wondolowski, 34, returns to the U.S. Men’s National Team to face his Quakes teammate Ureña and Costa Rica on Sept. 1 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. at 3:55 p.m. PT. The United States then takes on Honduras at Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, at 2:36 p.m. PT on Sept. 5. The U.S. is in third place in the qualifying group, sitting behind Mexico and Costa Rica with a 2-2-2 record.
Since making his international debut in 2011, Wondolowski has made 35 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists for the U.S. He recently extended his own MLS record by scoring 10+ goals for an eighth consecutive season.
