The race to succeed Sunil Gulati as US Soccer Federation president is officially underway, as the federation on Wednesday released the slate of eight candidates who have fulfilled the requirements to compete in the election in February.
Paul Caligiuri, Kathy Carter, Carlos Cordeiro, Steve Gans, Kyle Martino, Hope Solo, Michael Winograd and Eric Wynalda make up the field, while declared candidate Paul Lapointe was unable to complete the process overseen by the fed’s Nominating and Governance Committee.
To be placed on the ballot, candidates are required to complete a background check and submit at least three letters of nomination on official letterhead from USSF member organizations and/or one of the three athlete members of the board of directors.
The election will take place during U.S. Soccer’s annual general meeting on Feb. 10 in Orlando.
