NEWS: Three Quakes Academy Players Called to United States U17 National Team for Vaclav Jezek Tournament

SAN JOSE, Calif.– San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Cruz Medina and Quakes Academy midfielders Edwyn Mendoza and Oscar Verhoeven have been called to the United States U17 National Team for the Vaclav Jezek Tournament from Sept. 16-26 in Zlin, Czech Republic. San Jose is the most represented club on the 20-player roster.

The United States will face Slovakia on Wednesday, Sept. 21, Germany on Friday, Sept. 23, and Czech Republic on Sunday, Sept. 25.

The USA is continuing preparations for the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship, recently announced to be held in Guatemala from Feb. 11-22. The tournament will qualify four teams to the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru next fall. The Vaclav Jezek Tournament represents the first matches for the U17 MYNT since it took first place at a UEFA Development Tournament in May in Portugal against Italy, Belgium and Portugal.
