The San Jose Earthquakes concluded week 25 of the MLS season with one win and one loss. Based on their performances, ESPN determined that the Quakes deserved 6th place in their Power Rankings. The Quakes had a tough road match in Los Angeles against LAFC, but followed it up with an absolutely dominant display at home against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Vancouver had come into San Jose having earned seven points out of a possible 12, with two wins and a draw in their last four matches. Beside this uptick in form, the Quakes outclassed Vancouver in almost every way. The Quakes shattered three MLS records Saturday night with the most shots in a single half (25), the most shots in a game (43), and the most shots on target (19). The only positive (depending on which way you look at it) for Vancouver was their goalkeeper, Maxime Crepeau, set the MLS record for saves in a single match (16). Despite this display from Crepeau, the Quakes managed a 3-1 win over the Whitecaps. Read the full ESPN Power Rankings here.
The Quakes now look forward to a matchup against Eastern Conference side, Orlando City SC, on Saturday, August 31. A win against Orlando could push the Quakes into 2nd place in the West.
