NEWS: Quakes Forward Chris Wondolowski and Chico State Teammates to Host Soccer Camp to Benefit Camp Fire Victims

Chris Wondolowski - Soccer Camp - 2018

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski and his former teammates at Chico State are hosting a soccer camp Dec. 13-15 at Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, Calif., benefiting the victims of the Camp Fire. The soccer camp is free for victims of the Camp Fire. Camp participants are asked to make a $50 donation with all proceeds going to the North Valley Community Foundation.

The soccer camp will feature a coaches workshop led by Advance Sports Technology on Thursday, Dec. 13, a players, parents and coaches workshop followed by a meet and greet with Wondolowski on Friday, Dec. 14, and a soccer camp led by Wondolowski and his former Chico State teammates on Saturday, Dec. 15. Attendees do not need to RSVP in advance, but can pay the $50 participation fee via the GoFundMe page ahead of the events. Participants can also make the donation at the events.

The three-day camp is organized by Wondolowski, former Chico State soccer player Robby Busick and his brother Chad Busick of Advance Sports Technology. Robby Busick, owner of the Truck-a-Roni food truck, has been a humble leader in efforts to help the fire victims, providing free food for those in need and taking a leading role in organizing this camp.

Advance Sports Technology provides high performance training for corporate and athletic teams, focusing on the mental components. Chad Busick, a former college soccer player and graduate of California Lutheran University, will lead the workshops on Thursday and Friday.

Saturday’s camp provides soccer players of all ages the opportunity to learn from U.S Men’s National Team and Quakes forward Wondolowski. An alumnus of Chico State, Wondolowski leads Major League Soccer in many categories, including goals for one club (140), road goals (67) and double-digit goals scored in consecutive seasons (eight). Wondolowski is also the leading active goal scorer in MLS with 144 tallies and is just one shy of tying the league’s all-time record for goals scored (145, Landon Donovan). At the international level, Wondolowski has made 35 appearances for the U.S. Men’s National Team, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists.

In addition to the more than $20,000 that the Quakes Foundation has already donated to help Camp Fire victims, the club is also donating equipment for the soccer camp as part of the NorCal Honda equipment donation series.
