PayPal Park, home of the San Jose Earthquakes, will host an international friendly between Mexico’s Club America and Club Leon on Wednesday, June 22. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. PT and marks the second time each of these two clubs will compete at PayPal Park since 2021.
There will also be a Fan Fest prior to the match at 5:15 p.m. PT, featuring live music, food, team trophies display, and other surprise and delights.
An exclusive presale for Earthquakes Season Ticket Holders will begin on Tuesday, May 3 at 10 a.m. PT before tickets are made available to the general public on Wednesday, May 4 at 10 a.m. PT. Tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster.com.
Founded in 1916, Club America is the most successful club in Mexico with 34 total championships in its history, including a record 13 Liga MX titles, six Campeon de Campeones and six Copa MX championships. Club America have also fared well in international competitions, recording eight Concacaf Champions League titles and two Copa Interamericana championships, and have previously competed in other highly prestigious tournaments like Copa Libertadores.
Las Aguilas’ current roster features Mexico National Team players Henry Martin, Guillermo Ochoa, Jorge Sanchez, and Alejandro Zendejas, as well as national team players from Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Peru.
Founded in 1944, Club Leon have experienced success in Liga MX, most recently claiming titles during the Apertura 2013 and Clausura 2014 seasons. Club Leon have won eight Liga MX titles, five Copa MX championships and five Campeon de Campeones. They most recently reached the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by MLS side Seattle Sounders FC (4-1 agg.).
Currently led by Argentine head coach Ariel Holan, Leon’s roster features several national team players from North and South America, including Mexico National Team players Rodolfo Cota and Osvaldo Rodriguez.
The international friendly marks the 13th meeting all-time between two Mexican teams at PayPal Park since its opening in 2015.
