NEWS: Marcos Lopez called to Peru National Team for World Cup Qualifiers

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos Lopez has been called to the Peru National Team for three FIFA World Cup qualifying matches during the month of October.

Peru will host Chile on Oct. 7 (6 p.m. PT) before traveling to Bolivia on Oct. 10 (1 p.m. PT) and Argentina on Oct. 14 (4:30 p.m. PT). Peru is currently in seventh place in CONMEBOL, with four teams gaining automatic qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the fifth-place team advancing to the inter-confederation playoffs.

Lopez, 21, most recently participated in Peru’s World Cup Qualifiers last month, starting and playing 90 minutes in all three matches (Brazil, Uruguay, and Venezuela). The Callao, Peru native has tallied two goals and three assists in 47 appearances (38 starts) since joining the Quakes ahead of the 2019 season. He has made 12 starts in 16 total appearances for San Jose in 2021.
