San Jose Earthquakes Homegrown midfielder Gilbert Fuentes helped the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team advance to the knockout phase of the 2019 Concacaf U-17 Championship. Fuentes notched an assist in a dominating 6-1 win over Barbados in its second Group F match of the tournament. The United States stayed on top of the group after earning six points from their first two matches and have outscored their opponents 9-3.
Fuentes started and played the full 90-minute match. The Tracy-born midfielder received a pass from U.S. captain Kobe Hernandez before laying it off to Sporting Kansas City’s Gianluca Busio. Busio then blasted a shot from 22 yards out, which gave the U.S. a 4-0 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
The U.S. closes out group play against Guatemala on Monday, May 6 at 3 p.m. PT. You can watch Fuentes and the rest of the U-17 Men’s next match on the Concacaf Facebook page or Univision Deportes Network.
