NEWS: Five Reno 1868 FC players to train with Earthquakes this week

With several players absent from training this week due to international duty, including U.S. National Team forward Chris Wondolowski, Panamanian midfielder Anibal Godoy and Georgian forward Vako, the Earthquakes have called in some reinforcements.


Five players from the team’s USL affiliate Reno 1868 FC will spend time in San Jose training with the Quakes first team this week. Defender Jimmy Ockford and midfielders Luis Felipe, Matt LaGrassa, Antoine Hoppenot and Chris Wehan will help add numbers to Quakes’ training sessions while also having an opportunity to show their skills to the coaching staff.


Reno is currently in second place in USL’s Western Conference with a 17-7-7 record. They have an outrageous +36 goal differential and are also the top scoring team in the United States’ top three professional leagues with 73 goals.


Some notable statistics for the five players:


  • Chris Wehan, 23, leads the league in assists, tallying 12 in 28 games.
  • Antoine Hoppenot, 26, has featured in all 31 games to date and is second on the team with 11 goals.
  • Luis Felipe, 21, joined the team after the start of the season and has scored five goals in 25 games.
  • Jimmy Ockford, 25, is the anchor of the team’s defense, starting 29 of the 31 games to date and scoring four goals.
  • Matt LaGrassa, 24, has started in 29 of his 30 appearances and leads the team in passes (1,656) and passes per 90 minutes (58.2).
