SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that they will reveal the 50 Greatest Quakes in club history over the next month leading up to the club’s 50th Anniversary Weekend, which will culminate with the annual California Clásico game against the LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, June 29.
The honorees were nominated by the fans earlier this season and were selected based on their on-field performance, impact on the organization and support for the local community. The players span all eras of the Earthquakes - North American Soccer League, Western Alliance Challenge Series, Western Soccer Alliance and Major League Soccer. The 50 Greatest Quakes represent 12 different countries and 10+ states and have been instrumental in growing the sport of soccer in Northern California for the past 50 years. The Quakes were San Jose’s first professional sports team in 1974 and have become a permanent fixture in Northern California’s sports scene from the grassroots level to the professional game.
Starting Saturday, June 1, the team will announce two players each day on the club’s official website, sjearthquakes.com, as well as the club’s social media channels.
