SAN JOSE, Calif.– San Jose Earthquakes forward Cade Cowell has been tabbed at No. 8 on Major League Soccer’s 22 Under 22. Cowell, 19, has been selected for the third consecutive season.
22 Under 22 presented by BODYARMOR is a list of the top 22 players in MLS under the age of 22 – as voted on by an expert panel consisting of select MLS staff and MLS Season Pass talent.
Cowell is in his fifth professional season with the Quakes and has tallied 10 goals and 15 assists in 103 career MLS appearances. He became the youngest player in MLS history to earn 100 league appearances on Sept. 20, 2023.
Cowell holds numerous age-specific club records, including youngest player to make an MLS appearance (16 years, 150 days), youngest player to make an MLS start (16 years, 325 days), and youngest player to score an MLS goal (16 years, 325 days).
Cowell has earned multiple callups to the U.S. Men’s National Team this year, most notably in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. He appeared in five matches and scored his first career national team goal as the team advanced to the semifinals of the tournament. Additionally, Cowell played with the U.S. U-20 national team in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scoring three goals and helping the U.S. reach the quarterfinals. His three goals led the U.S. in scoring for the tournament.
